A film chronicle of the International Fryderyk Chopin Piano Competitions, held in the capital of Poland since 1927. The filmmakers outline the history of Chopin's ties to Warsaw and then attempt to summarize the history of the Competition itself, beginning with its origins and ending with the 13th edition, held in 1995. The film has a high documentary value. The filmmakers have collected extensive iconographic and source material. They have brought the competition's evolution closer to the audience by showing the changing realities over the years. By using newsreel excerpts, the concert hall coverage is supplemented with scenes that unfolded behind the scenes – in lobbies, hotels, and on the streets of Warsaw.
