May 30 and 31, 5:00 PM, "Chopin's Youth." 120 min.
A 1952 Polish biographical film directed by Aleksander Ford. Filming took place from February 9 to October 4, 1951, in and around Łódź, Łask, and Kazimierz Dolny. The film tells the story of the early life of the famous composer Fryderyk Chopin, specifically five years in his life (1825–1830). The screenplay is based on short stories about Chopin by Jerzy Broszkiewicz, Gustaw Bachner, Stanisław Hadyna, and Jan Korngold. Because the film was made during the period of socialist realism, in keeping with the spirit of the era, it portrays the composer as a revolutionary of the time, which is not entirely historically accurate.
